The Sealdah Division of Eastern Railway has announced 14 additional suburban local trains, including 11 EMU trains on the South Section and 3 MEMU trains on the Main Section. This initiative aims to reduce peak-hour congestion for office goers commuting to Central Kolkata.
Closure of PRS Counters at Eight Suburban Stations

Effective July 1, 2026, computerized passenger reservation counters at eight suburban stations will remain closed permanently. Eastern Railway cited that over 87% of suburban tickets are now booked online via the UTS app and IRCTC, making these counters redundant.
